Dynamic viscosity measures a fluid's resistance to flow. The SI unit is the pascal-second (Pa·s); the CGS unit is the poise, where 1 Pa·s = 10 P = 1,000 cP. Conveniently, one centipoise equals one millipascal-second, and water at 20 °C is almost exactly 1 cP. This gives intuitive reference points: olive oil is about 80 cP, honey roughly 2,000 to 10,000 cP. This converter is useful for lab reports, paint and coating specs, and lubricant data sheets that mix SI and CGS units. Note that kinematic viscosity (stokes, mm²/s) is a different quantity that also depends on density.
