This analyser evaluates a meta description on the things that actually affect performance: length, keyword presence and whether it gives a reader a reason to click. Google displays roughly 155-160 characters on desktop and about 120 on mobile, truncating on pixel width in the same way it does with titles, so the important message belongs in the first 120 characters. The description is not a ranking factor, but it heavily influences click-through rate, and matched query terms are shown in bold — which is why including the target keyword naturally helps even though it earns no ranking credit. Descriptions that are missing, duplicated across pages, or padded with keywords are the ones Google most often replaces with its own extract.
